Berlin girl Meggy has been a celebrated vocalist for quite some time now and has also proven herself as a producer with a string of great solo releases. Just recently she released her “TIMES” EP on Suol, earning not only a lot of praise and DJ support but also a very nice run in the Beatport Deep House Top 100 list. Now she is back already with another brand new EP – “WELCOME TO THE V”. To celebrate this release, we invited her along for a podcast and a chat.

Thanks for taking the time to record a mix for our podcast series, was there any special concept behind your mix, or tracks played from you own releases?

No special concept. I’ll always check right beforehand through rekordbox which tracks could fit each other. One of the songs i picked is WAKE which is a track of my EP WELCOME TO THE V which just got released on SUOL a few days ago.

Where did you record the mix, and what equipment did you use?

I don’t have a full DJ equipment at home so I’m lucky that I can always record my mixes in the Suol office rooms. This time it’s only CDJs and a mixer.

What is your thought process when picking out tracks for a podcast and how do you compare playing in a club to recording a podcast, is there much of a change in your mixing style and track selections?

I’m preselecting the tracks; to me this is the difference between a podcast and a recorded set in front of an audience. Within a podcast you simply hear what I like at the moment and which cannot especially be connected to partying most of the times. When playing in front of people there’s always an interaction going on and that is definitely influencing me picking out tunes. When alcohol is involved I am so much bolder regarding my mixing style 😉

What stores or other places do you normally look for new music… is it all sourced online, or do you also pick up the odd bit of vinyl?

Online, record shops, flea markets (check the one at Griessmuehle btw) – in this order.

Could you tell us a bit about your most memorable DJ experience?

There would be always something memorable about each gig for sure. I really enjoy playing outside I noticed this year, most festivals I’ve been to have been a lot of fun for me. Maybe the most unexpected fun set was the one on my birthday within our HALLO MONTAG series at IPSE b2b Pablo Mateo. Could have played 10 more hours at least 🙂

What other projects do you have lined up, do you have any new releases or forthcoming gigs we should be watching out for?

So festival season is done for me this year, WELCOME TO THE V just dropped and another EP is in the pipeline. Going back to the studio in autumn, we’ve got HALLO MONTAG season closing on 2nd of October, so if you’re in Berlin you should definitely check this one out.
