There is a unique style to the productions of Berlin based artist Re.You, in which he manages to instil a deep and cutting edge sound with enough dynamics to deliver tracks that are both emotional and dance floor ready. With a catalogue of hits already under his belt on world class labels like Mobilee, Kompakt, Moon Harbour and Monaberry, his recent success shows no signs of slowing, and his latest release on equally up-and-coming label Cacao is a testament to his versatility and skill as a producer.
The lead track “Work It Now” feels like a subtle nod to classic house and techno, with a pulsating groove, infectious chords and a cheeky but killer vocal hook, it has its feet firmly on the peak time dance floor.
On the flip side, “Miu” demonstrates Re.You’s love of afro sounds, combining tribal infused rhythms, and mesmerising percussion with a subtle, minimalist bassline that aptly complements the arrangement.
Completing the release are remixes from two of the scenes most influential players. Jeudi head honcho Doctor Dru presents his interpretation of “Work It Now”, adding his own fingerprint to the already bumping track, transforming it into a trippy and glitch-heavy adventure. And finally, German Tech House pioneers Tiefschwarz add their own flavour to the record with this inherently deep and atmospheric remix.
Overall this release has something for every set and every floor, and is right on the pulse of current underground house & techno.
