Full of Turkish flair, the new EP on Sol Selectas is from Derun who blends music from folk law with electronic beats.
Derun takes influence from the historical locations in their home country of Turkey and try to tell stories with their music. “Kordelio” from the release is inspired by the country’s Karsiyaka district which over the decades has been a site of many wars, and its mournful tone honours the tragic death of those who died in these conflicts.
Putting his own stamp on Kordelio is PHCK who is known to many for his releases on All Day I Dream. He has also remixed music for many highly acclaimed imprints and he now adds Sol Selectas to that list.
The PHCK remix is true to the original, has much of the traditional percussion and the dramatic vocal gives it a cinematic style, but it also has a solid groove suited to the dance floor. Bringing in melodic elements and adding some new pad sounds, the rework is a masterpiece production.
