Out now is the new release from Sabo’s record label Sol Selectas and it features an original track by ARKADYAN, plus remixes from Manoo and Safar (FR).
Jumping straight to what in our opinion is the stand-out cut, Manoo’s remix is something quite special. It’s a percussive masterpiece that doesn’t stop building suspense as it progresses and only stops the groove for a small breakdown section where the track reaches its crescendo.
Manoo has been releasing music since the mid-2000s and in that time, he has matured like a fine wine, with his sound slowly moving to Afro house while still retaining elements from his soulful house roots. During that time his music has been showcased on labels such as Derrick Carter’s Classic and the highly influential Innervisions run by Âme and Dixon.
Although the Manoo remix is a personal favourite, the whole EP is pretty solid and rewinding back to the original track by ARKADYAN, that is also an impressive cut.
ARKADYAN are new to our radar, but they have also featured on BLOND:ISH’s Abracadabra Music and this is their second time on Sol Selectas. Their original is a Moroccan influenced Afro house cut with lots of live percussion layered alongside sequenced beats. It also has a nice mix of instruments that give the track a human feel with their musicianship.
Safar (FR)’s remix is probably the track that a lot of people will gravitate towards, as it’s got a traditional DJ friendly structure and a linear flow that is at times a little predictable. Nothing wrong with being predictable though, as it’s often those familiar tracks that make the dance floor that warm and comforting space, where someone can lose themselves for a few hours.
All the tracks are more than solid and it is another release that reminds us of Sabo’s skills as a music curator and label A&R.
