Nüur is a prolific organic house artist who has released music on prestigious record labels ranging from MoBlack Records to Shango Records, and his new release, Bica sees him return to the Earthly Delights imprint.
Bica is an EP featuring three original tracks by Nüur, one of which is a collaboration with a new artist called Øsskar. The other two tracks are solo productions by Nüur that showcase the Afro house side of his sound with melodic synths underlined by flowing drums.
This is the third solo EP and seventh time that Nüur has featured on Earthly Delights, and the release has already found DJ support from the likes of Joris Voorn, Joyce Muniz and Niki Sadeki.
The title track, “Bica” opens the release with wailing cinematic vocals, and what sounds like either a marimba or xylophone melody layered alongside fluttering synths and shuffling percussion.
“Mi Gente” is second on the release, and it’s a percussive track with moody suspense and trippy atmospherics surrounding dramatic drums. It also has an emotive vocal that gives a focal point to this stomping Afro house track.
“Anuk” is the track made in collaboration with Øsskar, and it closes the release with an uplifting energy provided by live percussion and an arpeggiated synth line. The breakdown throws off all restraints, as the arpeggio builds tension with an exhilarating change to its notation.
On a whole, this is a well-executed release with enough variation to keep the listener engaged, while also providing something for everyone.
