Full of groovy beats and infectious rhythms, The Replacements is the latest vinyl and digital release from Michigan’s very own (MS) label, helmed by the talented Myles Sergé. This concise compilation showcases four standout tracks by artists from Argentina, France, and America, promising a vibrant and eclectic mix that will keep you dancing from start to finish.
Gonzalo MD from Buenos Aires is up first, and he offers us “Aura Nova.” With its stomping groove and spacey textures, this tune is a fun trip through modern techno. The captivating mood created by the springy stabs and floating sounds is ideal for any late-night dance floor.
Philippe Petit from Chamonix provides the second entry “Strange Luck.” This track’s warm, pulsating bassline and subtle delays give the EP a soulful flavour. This deep jam with Detroit influences seems both timeless and modern, making it ideal for times when you are looking to lose yourself in the music.
The third track is the title piece, “The Replacements,” by none other than (MS) label boss Myles Sergé. Known for his work on labels like Ilian Tape and Kneaded Pains, Sergé doesn’t disappoint. There are lots of addictive jackin’ claps and whipping hi-hats on this grungy, analogue-focused record that begs to be listened to loudly.
“Pecatonica” is the closing track from fellow American Mike Derer, who has over 20 years in the industry and showcases his skill by creating a stunning sound design experience. The listener’s attention is held throughout by the changing textures that envelop some tasteful modular notes and fluttering percussion parts.
The Replacements is a light-hearted and fun collection that showcases the best classic and contemporary techno around. Whether you’re a seasoned techno enthusiast or new to the scene, this EP is sure to bring a smile to your face and get your feet moving.
