As Co-Curators of Events and Music brand Everything Will Be OK, London-based DJs Techník have curated line ups including the likes of HOSH, Jonas Rathsman, Lost Desert, Just Her, Gab Rhome, Powel, Joseph Ashworth, Third Son, Elfenberg and more. With a depth of musical knowledge and a wealth of experience in creating dance floor moments, we are excited to welcome them to our podcast feature.

Thanks for taking the time to record a mix for our podcast series, was there any special concept behind your mix, or tracks played from your own releases?

First, thanks so much for inviting us to the guest mix series, we’ve loved HimselfHer and Constant Circles for a long time and it’s such a pleasure to speak with you guys!

We approached the mix with a completely new playlist of newly discovered music.. we always like to make a mix a bit of a journey with peaks and troughs so it’s not just constant head banging.

We hope you enjoy it guys 🙂

Listen on MIXCLOUD.

Where did you record the mix, and what equipment did you use?

We recorded the mix at our shared flat in South London, much to the dismay of some of our neighbours, but it was worth it.

To record the mix we used a mixture of mixing and live elements – the equipment we used includes:

Pioneer XDJ1000s – We love the touch screen and ease of it… plus, we haven’t touched a CD in years
Pioneer DJM750-K – A great at-home mixer
Pioneer RMX-500 – This is great for off-the-cuff effects and drum patterns
Roland TR8-S – We’ve recently fallen in love with this, and absolutely love to play with this during our sets to add an extra layer of drums.

What is your thought process when picking out tracks for a podcast, do you pre-select the tracks, or just pick out the first couple and freestyle it from there?

We approach podcasts in a slightly different way to club mixesby creating new playlists with the freshest music for each podcast mix, this is to make sure no two mixes are the same and to keep people guessing. And yes… that’s a lot of money on Beatport!

When we start playing, we usually pick a nice slow, opening track and then go for it from there! It usually turns out good but we have had some hiccups too!

How do you compare playing in a club to recording a podcast, is there much of a change in your mixing style and track selections?

We tend to approach club mixes and playlists by including a much bigger selection of tracks that will all fit the time, room, crowd and overall vibe.. there’s nothing like choosing the right track at the perfect time of a club night!

What stores or other places do you normally look for new music… is it all sourced online, or do you also pick up the odd bit of vinyl?

When looking for new music, we usually find it by checking out new mixes and tracks on Soundcloud, and most recently Spotify (there are some seriously good gems in their playlists!).

We also love to listen to new promos that are sent to us on the likes of Inflyte and directly our Everything Will Be OK pages, our own brand.. But more on that later…

And another great way to find new music is through our Good Morning Guest Mix Series – we invite artist from all over the world to share a two hour mix, and it has been massively popular all over the world! It’s such a pleasure to welcome some of our favourite artists to the series and we have discovered some seriously good music through this! We highly recommend you check it out! >> https://soundcloud.com/everythingwillbeok1/sets/good-morning-from

We love shopping for vinyl on our lazy days off

Could you tell us a bit about your most memorable DJ experience?

Wow… what a question.

One definite stand out set was a recently in Romania for our good friends ‘Deep House Bucharest’, we were invited to play on one of the terraces of the People’s Palace in the capital, which is the second biggest government building the world.. in short, it was HUGE!

We were invited to play a headline set as the sun set over the Romanian capital… the entire crowd were incredible and as one of us (Vali) is Romanian, it was a very special experience for us both.

In a very close second would be main room sets at two of the world’s best clubs – Amnesia and Printworks.. we were blown away!

What other projects do you have lined up, do you have any new releases or forthcoming gigs we should be watching out for?

Our main focus for the past few years has been building our Everything Will Be OK brand bigger and bigger and we plan to just that for the foreseeable future.

We don’t want to give too much away just set but we’ll be announcing a lot over the next 12 months, including our first international party, our second birthday, and something extra special for 2020.
