Cosmic Boys and their label Legend are once again riding high at the top of Beatport’s much coveted sales chart. Right now, their new track “Dark Places” is positioned at No.2 in the Techno (Peak Time / Driving) section of the website, and it’s highly anticipated that they will achieve the No.1 spot.
For those who have been under a rock this last year or so, Cosmic Boys are a French duo that have been building in popularity for many years, but exploded onto the scene in 2020 when they collaborated on a track with UMEK. They followed that up with a remix of Mark Reeve, and since then they have been going from strength to strength.
This new release Dark Places is a collaboration with AKKI (DE) who is a German artist known for releasing tracks on Spartaque’s labels IAMT and Codex. He has also been a regular on Legend, and this is his first time collaborating with the Cosmic Boys.
Dark Places is just a solo track release with no remixes, which shows the confidence the guys have in it, and its popularity proves that their opinion wasn’t wrong. It takes its name from a sci-fi style female vocal sample that gives it a dystopian feel, but it’s the synth line and percussion that provide the energy.
Reaching a hands in the air crescendo during the euphoria of the main breakdown, it builds a perfect suspense that would no doubt light up any dance floor when the drums come back in. Almost a masterclass in how to hold and release tension, this is another exceptional track from the Cosmic Boys and their label Legend.
