Boom Merchant

Regroup & Lounge is the new EP by Boom Merchant who showcases his dark and gripping style of peak time techno.

Originally from Ireland, but currently living between Glasgow (Scotland) and Mexico City (Mexico), Boom Merchant has an open-minded approach to techno. Often taking elements from other genres, and mixing them with techno, the title track on this release combines driving percussion with trance-inspired euphoric elements.

The second track, “Arparp” is a much darker and more traditional techno production with pounding drums sequenced into hypnotic rhythms surrounded by dark atmospherics.

Hockins contributes two remix versions of the title track, one is a two-step garage remix with a throbbing bassline. The other is an old-school breaks remix, which pays homage to classic rave with its acid synths.

This release comes via Boom Merchant’s record label Tribal Pulse, but his music has also been released by the likes of Autektone Dark. Hockins has also released on the influential breaks label, 83.

The title track is likely what most people will be drawn to, as “Regroup & Lounge” has got a great hands in the air vibe. Hockins’ reworks are both great interpretations that open this release up to people who like genres outside of the techno spectrum.
