Boom Merchant

Azteca is a dark and hypnotic techno release from Boom Merchant who is making his debut on Sisko Electrofanatik’s Gain Plus with this menacing pair of original works.

Most of Boom Merchant’s releases have come through his record label Tribal Pulse, but he has also showcased his sound via other record labels including La La’s Brand New Records and T78’s Autektone Dark.

Originally from Ireland, Boom Merchant moved to Scotland and established himself within Glasgow’s club scene, but he recently relocated to Mexico. He already has an international following that has earned him bookings in countries like Germany and Japan.

Boom Merchant’s style fuses robust percussion with hulking basslines, and he often uses the breakdown in his tracks to switch up the mood. He also uses distinctive samples that help break up the groove with dramatic bursts that create moments of excitement.

“Rain God/War God” is the second track on this release, and its use of a shouting vocal saying “fire” is a great example of Boom Merchant’s dramatic use of samples. He also fades in deep pads that create moments of tranquillity in an otherwise tough and industrial track.

The title track, “Azteca,” opens the release with a churning bassline that sets off a chain reaction of fluttering effects that weave through up-tempo percussion. Grounded by a heavy kick drum, it’s an intense techno track that is full of atmosphere.
